Have you ever catch yourself starring at the ceiling and just ask yourself; “How to become rich?.”
Most of the time, I ask myself this, and I heard that one of the many ways to become one is learn first. So I started by watching several videos on YouTube on how to become rich hoping to get insights and guidance. In my observation, most of these Youtubers point at the same principle: You have to overcome laziness and maintain self discipline.
Overcoming laziness is one of the hardest thing to overcome, especially for those who are not comfortable doing things that they are not familiar with to the point it becomes overwhelming to bear. For others, it’s due to trauma or stress that it paralyzes them to work even on simple chores such as sweeping the living room floor.
Let’s be honest, most of you (including me) don’t want to do things that feels like forced and difficult to start because of how different it is from what we were used to doing, or to some, who are battling with stress and fatigue.
One of the best Youtuber (In my opinion) that I had watched was Iman Gadzhi, on one of his YouTube Video titled: the only video you need to get rich…
He explained how an airplane consumes a significant amount of fuel during takeoff but becomes more efficient once it's soaring through the sky. His analogy is in order to become rich you need to burn yourself with hardwork and stay focus with your goals. To start, you have to be willing to make sacrifices and maintain self discipline, only by then just like the plane, it will become easier.
That part has truly resonates with me. Back when I was young I always get compared to my older sister, she’s the total opposite of me. She’s now living abroad as a medical technologist and here I am at the time I write this blog - broke and just starting anew to achieve my goals.
Looking back I had no long term goals and was more on surviving until the next day comes. It’s always been like that until I experience what rich people does. Taking a vacation, riding planes, going to expensive restaurants and coffee shops. Something in me has sparked and wants to have that kind of life where I get to experience that at least once or twice a month without having to worry about the money to spend.
Currently, I am writing this blog as a personal documentation on my journey to financial freedom and success. I want to become a new person with goals who overcomes laziness and is everyday living life with a purpose. I want to see if the things I have learned written below and will learn in the future are effective, and maybe it can also help anyone who can relate to me who struggles at overcoming laziness:
Things that I learned to overcome laziness
If you want better results, then focus on your system - This is one of the things I learned from the book called “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. He states on Chapter 1 that “In order to rise to the level of your goals, you have to fall to the level of your system.” When I was starting to change and become better, my goal at that time was to improve myself. So I thought about buying myself a self help book would be a great idea. So, I went ahead to Fully Booked store and bought the Atomic Habits as what was recommended in TikTok. It was totally worth it because after reading the book, I could say I was never the same after reading it.
Use Trello.com or download the Trello app to organize your everyday tasks - I learned from Atomic Habits that I need to prioritize and focus more on the system, I realized I need to have a material or a medium that I can use to create a system to finish my daily tasks and improve how I manage my time management. And Trello has become the best partner I currently have now. I was able to finish my portfolio website in one night. Can you imagine having no prior experience to design a website through wix, yet I was able to finish designing one in just one night? Even I could not believe it! It felt so fulfilling to finished a hard task such as that. By having a good system that allows me to meet my goals before the deadline, things have been easy to accomplish.
Studying at Surge Marketplace - I have met a friend before, we used to live on the same house in a room for rent. She said that she used to be a supervisor in one of the call center in Davao City but she took a risk by quitting her previous job and enrolled herself at Surge. After graduating she started getting international direct clients and was able to earn more than her previous work. She was able to invest on properties and afford vacations every month. She has indeed inspired me so here I am trying my best to learn from Surge and hopefully become competitive in the market.
Time never comes back once it passed - I learned from Chinkee Tan, a famous Youtuber, business man and author of “My Ipon Diary” in one of his Youtue video: YUMAMAN Gamit ang ORAS! HA? PAANO? Panoorin Mo ‘To!” that money can be recovered if you lost it, but time isn't. So how you spend every second of your life should not be wasted on things that will waste your time. Time wasted is a missed opportunity and delayed success. And I just wish I could turn back time and tell myself to learn and stay focus, but again, once it passed, it will not go back anymore. So being selective on how I spend my time every day should always be on my mind to remind myself whenever I have the urge to just sit and be lazy for the day.
Meditate - I've been hearing this from a lot of content creators whenever I watch inspiring videos on how to stay focus. I’ve been doing meditation lately when I woke up. Right before I check my emails, so I can stay calm to whatever kind of email I may receive and to start my day with a focused mind and positive energy.
I know my journey to financial freedom and success won’t be a 1 year shortcut but will take many years to come. But one thing is for sure, I am now becoming better and far from who I was before. And I hope as I continue to learn from the process, I get to edit this list and finally say at the end: I finally earned my first million!!!
